Systems Engineering Process

Process for undertaking and for managing the engineering of a system

Good Systems Engineering is, not surprisingly, systematic. It requires simple and clear processes for undertaking the engineering of a system as well as processes for managing the engineering. These processes should build upon the company’s existing processes but contain aspects that reinforce a systems approach to system design and development. Critical to to the engineering of a system is the recognition that it is designed in levels as shown in the diagram below.

 At a detailed level the Systems Engineering process makes use of a set of meta-processes that include:

- PDCA
- Convergent and divergent thinking
